Bud Vase - Twig Pot - Weed Pot

Post by rpd »

Bud Vase - Twig Pot - Weed Pot.
What ever you choose to call them they are a quick an easy lathe project.

I have posted these in other threads but here are the three that I have turned so far.
These were turned from apple wood but you can use pretty much whatever you have on hand or can scrounge.
They were finished with natural Watco oil and then wax. Kind of a satin finish.
I do need to figure out a better / more consistant light for the photos. :(

I was inspired to try these after seeing videos by
Sam Angelo - WYOMINGWOODTURNER

and Mike Peace

Mike Peace also has a handout that you can download from his website. Mike Peace Woodturning scroll down and click on Twig Pot H.O.

I'll post some more details when I have time, maybe do another one and document the steps.

Missed another video that I had watched. This one is quite long but well done.

Very nice. I was given a piece of Willow and a couple of pieces of cherry this week. Those look like a good project to practice with on those woods.

This looks like a fun project. Don't have any stock ready to try this with but like they say, opportunity might come up to get a branch long enough for a couple tries as I take a walk.

Not sure if my skill set for designing these will be any good, will not know until I try. Like the last guy says, they will be good enough for neighbors who you don't like all that much........ not that I have any like that but still.

Ever since I made the buckeye-burl ice cream scoop for my niece last fall, I've been trying to figure out what to make for her sister. The buckeye-burl blank is already on the shelf, and you just showed me the light! :)
