I'm using Nicks suggestions of adding two diagonal braces, spaces in the table top and brass screws. Other than trial and error, how can one figure what is needed. As far as the length of the brace and the needed angles? Right now through trial and error, the brace at the seat cross member is 42° and 45° at the underside of the table top. Brass screws are not cheap.

This might be a good idea for a sawdust session?
