Misaligned Quill Depth Dial

Post by roopurt5 »

As I mentioned in the Do You Own A PowerPro thread, my PowerPro headstock came with the quill depth dial aligned oddly. It works fine, but it's weird, as I kind of have to futz a bit to remember which way is which. JPG seemed a bit flabbergasted, so here are the pictures I promised from that other thread.

All of these were taken from the back side of the headstock, so keep that POV in mind.

This one is dialed all the way to the left

First, I do not see the 'index' mark on the top of the quill housing.???

Second the dial markings need to be as shown below(looking from the back side/interior of the 'dial'.

Indeed the '0' should be 'on top' with the DIAL rotated full counter clockwise.

The '4 1/4' should be 'on top' with the DIAL rotated full clockwise.

The position of the quill is irrelevant unless the stop wingnut is tightened.

YES

And that flat part needs to be at the bottom.

I am beginning to think my recollection of "D" shaped hole is incorrect.

For sure the quill housing is "D" shaped.(IIRC  )

Is the fix as easy as loosening that set screw on top that is covered and just rotating counterclockwise?
