Heads Up - Bargain 'available'

Hey gang - I've been MIA for a while while work and the rest of life has had the best of me…anyway, I needed another Shopsmith like a hole in the head but I couldn't turn down a 520 that suddenly popped up on our local CL - I was able to get it for $400 and it is in near pristine condition. The serial #/manufacturing date is May 2003 and the headstock plate says its a golden 50th anniversary model. He told me his father bought it new and used it for about a year before passing away and it's been in a storage unit ever since. He's now moving to Texas and had to find it a new home quick and I couldn't say no to the low price. I have way too many SS now so I think I'll put some of my 10E/ER units on CL for free (most of them came to me that way). Anyway, pretty excited to have a 520 and it was nice to hear a headstock that purrs like a kitten.

I have two 10Es that I'll hold onto - one is a dedicated drill press and the other I haven't determined it's exact role yet…I also have at least 3 10ERs in pieces that were given to me by someone who intercepted them before they were sent to the scrap metal yard by someone they knew (!) If anyone is interested in a road trip to redwood country then I'd be happy to re-home the 10ERs…otherwise I'll find a worthy recipient on CL

Ya I have 2 as dedicated DP and one for a lathe when I start turning, but that is not my style or wood working as of yet. No way to the scrap yard

The colors in picture 7 shows that it started life as a "Greenie". Picture 11 of the ID plate says Magna Power Tool Corp. and Mark 5.

So it was a Magna Mark 5 that we know today as a Model 500 and was upgraded to a SS 510. No mystery at all.

Hey, JPG, was the Magna Mark 5 called a Model 500 or did that originate with Yuba or SS?

The model designation (500, 505, 510, 520) started with the introduction of the 510 tables.
