Civil War inspirations
. . . Is the theme of the past weekend . . .
Here were some of the pens I did over Christmas. I really liked the Civil War "bullet" pen:

Now lately I've had a busted travel suitcase. I decided he would do just fine with a "peg leg" from me, "Sawbones":

Nice pens. Great suitcase leg. It will make it allot easier to spot on the turnstyle. I fixed a flower pot for my wife like that a long time ago, it is still on the patio. I really go for home made creative fixes.
And again, nice pen, nicely displayed.

Now put a metal cap on that leg so you can really hear old peg-leg coming.

They also sell a pen turning mandrel kit that fits the shopsmith arbor, and other goodies as well. Allow time for fulfillment and shipping. PSI is not the fastest vendor on the planet.

Thanks for the link.
I have ordered from Shopsmith and some others. I am trying to anticipate my future needs. Ordering something I need ASAP has usually been disappointing regardless of where from. Thanks for the heads up though:)

I really like this place for pen turning items. Their prices are pretty good. Slimline pen kits are 1.65 each.
Check it out... nope, I don't work for them...just a satisfied customer

Re: Civil War inspirations
I just realized I had another Penn State "Civil War" pen kit in my stash, along with a stabilized burl blank. So here is another!
On this one, I tried a new finish as shown from Doctor's Woodshop (I got my bottle from Woodcraft last weekend). It's somewhat like Shellawax, but doesn't smell nearly as strong, and I think it needs a bit more friction-heat to get it to work right. But I believe I'll continue to practice it to find the best tricks.
