Florida folks, are you all ok? As far as I know, there is Ed in Tampa, Bill Mayo and Bill V. There was another person around Tallahassee. I know that trees are down, land and houses are flooded, utilities are down and the area from Tallahassee south to Tampa took a beating. So, just wanted to give a shout out and see if all are well. Hope to hear great news from you soon.

Hermine had very little effect on me and the Tampa Bay Area. However if you listen to news then it was a major disaster. We had about 4-5 inches of rain in a 36 hour period which is virtually nothing to us. Some houses on the beach got flooded but they flood without hurricanes. Frankly I think the insurance should pay and say they will not pay another claim on the house. Then people would build out of flood zones.
Winds were moderate and my windfall ( limbs blown out of trees) was less than many other storms we had this year.
First Huricane to hit Florida in 11 years and it was real easy on us.

All's well here!! Got some wind and rain but nothing spectacular. A lot of small twigs and branches about up to a foot long but no large trees down and no property damage.

Not much more than heavy rain in Clearwater Florida. Just made my already leaking roof leak more.

Has anyone heard from Mr. Bill Mayo? I hope he is well, but I am guessing from what those who live in the area, that he is alright. You can normally dismiss much of the news reporting as Francis said earlier. However, my experience tells me that some storms reach pretty far inland and others do mostly coastal damage. As I watched the radar, I could see bands of showers and rain going into those areas, but it is hard to tell from that how strong the rain or wind is.
Bob, a quick lesson about hurricanes, the wind and rain from the sea to the land can be devastating. They can totally remove buildings or flatten them. The winds that have been over land for any period is weakened as it returns over the water. Another bit of observation of 40 years is that as they approach shore, they drift a little to the right. Look at it as if looking at a spinning cue ball. The western side of this storm was mild, but south of Tallahassee took out many trees, damaging buildings and putting most folks without electricity. Some water and gas mains were broken from uprooted trees. My son-in-law could not get to work until today. Too many trees blocking roads. The residents will be cleaning up for several days.

Lots of small branches, limbs and twigs along with green pine cones came down, mostly during Friday night when the hurricane center was a few hundred miles north of us. No trees this time. Any standing water was all dried up by today. I am more inland then ED so no major flooding occurred and no power outrage.
