Can anybody take a pic of the inside of their strip sander?

Indeed! I would have taken a pix of mine, but it also is not OEM assembled.

My recollection is that it was in the way of installing the belt oriented the 'parts list diagram way'.

I think it another example of graphics folks taking liberty(or just not knowing). Everett knows of what I speak of here. His embellished diagrams are a vast improvement.
Some Graphic Liberties taken have not been corrected for years. Once I noticed this one, I updated my drawing which was taken from it. As I recall I had done two revisions of the exploded parts diagram, and missed it until then. See http://www.shopsmith.com/ss_forum/viewt ... 66#p190966 and follow the progression of the drawing down to 3.02 to see what I mean,

Here's a thread JPG created some time back with some photos you may find something in. As he stated previously his was reassembled by him not the MS and I suspect this thread is that machine.
