I made it - What is it?

Post by pascalore »

Day 4 of my Shopsmith ownership and I made this ?thing? Take a look.

It is 6 inches tall.

It is 1 1/4" diameter at the top with a raised lip.

It is 2 1/4" diameter at the bottom. And it has a 3/4" hole through the middle.

I used the lathe for the second attempt. Thanks to this forum. I used the fence and miter gauge with two clamps to horizontally boar the hole from both ends due to its length.

More pictures to follow. Make your best guess.

I know!!, I know!! Raised my hand and everything!

Answer: It is a partially finished handle for a crank. :D Or a chisel, or something like that!

Kinda looks like the beginning of a salt/pepper shaker. Or maybe a candlestick holder?

I think that rsdiggs is on the right track, but how about a reducer for a dust collector or shop vac?:D

It's an exploration into the capabilities of the Shopsmith AND the development of woodworking without the stress of potentially screwing up expensive materials....

....By the way, Ed, you "quack" me up.

Sorry, couldn't resist........:p

Darn, I was in the shop and got another idea of what that item might be, but - - Ed beat me to it! -- I was gong to guess a duck call, but turkey call or elk whistle would also fit.

It is a completed item.

An adapter from a 1 1/4" shop vac hose to the port on the bandsaw or table saw etc.

Only 3/4" hole since that is the biggest brad point I have but I don't think it could be drilled bigger anyway. I am getting a real adapter from Shop-Vac and will taper the inside so as not to have a flat area for sawdust to get stuck in. Small stuff should'nt have a problem anyway. Don't have the space for a real vac system yet so this will work for now.

On to another exciting woodworking adventure.

Thanks for playing. As a prize, I could record an answering maching message for you. Tell me who you want it to be and what to say ie: Christopher Walken, G. W. Bush, Alfred Hitchcock, Austin Powers etc. You name who and what.

PS. To etc92guy the wood was cut-off from a crate I turned into a tool box.

Very hard wood and tough to turn.

As one of the winners, I will have to decline the offer of your prize: You do knot seem to be offering the right voice. I wood prefer Michelle Pfeiffer, Stevie Nicks, Shania Twain or even Mae West and she wood have to say something about her man being busy and to leave a message that will be returned when she gave him the time. :D
