Scroll Saw

Post by Albertt62 »

Hi,

I purchased a scroll saw on eBay. No manual.

Is the gray scroll saw the same as the new teal colored one?

Thank you!

This is a gray scroll saw, not the jig saw.

The gray version is the older one and there were a couple of variations of that. It is similar to the newer teal version but they are not the "same".

You can check with shopsmith to see if they still have a manual for the older model. If you are lucky enough to have a sticker still on the machine with date code that would be a good reference as to which one you have.

Parts are no longer necessarily available. Some are and some are not so be aware you may have to make do or reinvent parts.

If it hasn't already had the upgrades they are worth it in my book.

What are the differences between the grey and the teal?

Color, blade mount(etc.) and tension adjustment.

The latter two are available as an upgrade.

There are other changes inside so while some parts might be interchangeable others will not.

As an example the arm bushings are no longer available from shopsmith but you can purchase something close and then turn them to fit. Both JPG and I have done that and it's not difficult task but not all here are going to want to do that.

I also believe hearing the rear table mounting is different and replacement parts are not to be had. Again work a-round's exist but.........

I'm not sure if the question was relating to the outwards appearance or more of the internals. Changes both places.

The $11.99 gray scroll saw reference packet from the MS contains the owners manual and parts listing.

I don't know if this covers your model/year or not. It says for 555220 and 555272.
