Since you removed the roller completely and exchanged it twice, I feel certain you would have noticed if the segments of the metal roller assembly remained tight against each other.

There is a set screw on one end that is designed to keep the segments tight to each other. A screw came loose on one I was using and it seemed to effect a bit of skew in the stock feed.

There is a good bit of vibration on any planer's in-feed roller from the cutter head cutting the stock in an opposing direction, so I used some fresh thread sealer on the set screw on mine.

It is something I check now when I am cleaning the planer, and it has not come loose since.

Again, I am sure you would have noticed that on yours, but post this for folks who may be reading through this thread later, where that may be in play.

The knurled infeed roller is locked tight. :) I actually made sure it was also the outfeed roller by completely removing it from the equation and just running the infeed and the infeed always feeds the stock straight as long as the stock is very close to square and flat. I was just surprised by how finicky the outfeed roller can be when there is so little discernible evidence (to the naked eye) that the roller is failing.
