What is the difference between the bench and way tubes

Bench tubes are longer and bigger diameter. Not sure of the exact size right now.

Thank You. I have a extra power head and mounting hardware and want to create a Mini so I can use it in different applications so I do not have to brake down my SS to accomplish other tasks such as drilling or sanding etc.

A mini would be nice. Not sure about the fence post. You could get a set of calipers and check the size on your machine.

Depending on the year of your machine the tubes may well be the same diameter but the way tubes will always be 3/4" shorter.

I have a 2/3 size version I'm building by cutting off 16", but depending on what functions you want to retain you could make it longer or shorter.

The way tubes are the one the headstock sits on just in case that isn't clear.

Thanks everyone. I will mic out the tubes as suggested. I am going to use it for other tasks instead of braking the saw setup when I need to drill, sand or bore.

Recent tubes are 1 3/4" od both way and bench.

Recent end castings are to be used with those.

Greenie(and some early goldie) had 1 7/8" bench tubes. The end castings for them have slightly different mounts for the bench tubes.(bigger hole etc.)

i.e. do not mix versions.

Pre 1962.

AIUI as is typical for production changes, they are 'almost' coincidental with the 1 1/8 hp change. Not sure if poly-v is also coincidental or relevant. That may have occurred earlier(1960)????
