Re: New Product
I was under the impression they were very different. Had I known I would have bought just one. Oh well. I wanted the 520 version because I am waiting for the 520 fence upgrade to arrive any time now. I ordered it through Lowes to get the military discount. It works well for its intended use so I am pleased. In an upcoming project I will be needing to make repetitive mitered dados so it will make that an easy task. It was very easy to dial the width in and either tighten or loosen the fit to get it perfect. For the fence micro adjuster I will need to make an additional fixture. Should get to that this weekend.

Re: New Product
They are different i in that each one comes with different mounting hardware. The similarity seems to be only in the dimensions of the black plate.
I have also concluded that there is NO NEED to drill holes in the fence since the standard 510 fence already has three pre-drilled holes located at approximately 1 3/4" up from the bottom of the fence. This coincides with the location of the miter slot in the sides of the 520 fence.

Re: New Product
I guess I am being anal. I simply have a distrust of excessively sloppy holes. I guess that it rests on the table anyway*, so I concur that the pins may also be superfluous.dusty wrote:Why should the 1/4" bolt be centered. All it does is provide a means to attach the plate to the fence?JPG wrote:Come to think of it, the 'studs' are redundant(the pins will do for the 520) All that is needed is a bolt and knob to mount to a 510(or 500). I would add a sleeve(1/4 id, 5/16 od) to center the 1/4" bolt.
I had the basic same question about the two studs. All they do is keep the plate oriented so the bottom edge is parallel to the table top. Why is that a virtue?

Re: New Product
Well, received my new tool from Shopsmith today. Its official name is the "Cross Cut Double-Stop. IMO, it was a long time coming. Very well packed and protected from damage while in transport.
It was ordered early early (like 2:00am) on 9/7/2017 and it arrived here today at 2:30PM (9/22/2017). Now mind you, I am not complaining. Delivery was originally estimated by UPS to be "by the end of day 9/26/2017. I guess you could say that it arrived four days early.
It was worth the investment. I am glad I bought it even thought it was a bit expensive for the few pieces of hardware that it is. When not being used it will be stored in one of the miter tracks on the top of my 520 fence.
The holes, JPG, are not excessively sloppy. It hangs quit nicely on the side of the rip fence and is positioned just a wee bit off of the table top. The block itself measures 2 1/2" x 2 1/2 x 1/2". The two studs are nothing more than 1" split roll pins. I had to do some fine tuning to make the t-nut so that it would slide in the t-track. The roll pins were inserted a touch too far and had to be tapped back out to get clearance.
I think it should be standard equipment with the 520 rip fence.

Re: New Product
The hole 'slop' I was concerned about was when the 3/8" screw is replaced with a 1/4" screw when used with the 500 and 510 fences.

OKAY. I really should have realized that. I guess it is time to move over to the Shorty and check that out.JPG wrote:The hole 'slop' I was concerned about was when the 3/8" screw is replaced with a 1/4" screw when used with the 500 and 510 fences.

Re: New Product
I put it on the 510 fence first and although as you said JPG it is a little sloppy, once it was tightened down it was stable enough. I did replace the knurled nut with a larger knob just for ease of the hands. I agree Dusty that they probably should consider it as a standard item for the fence. It really works well. It has the capability of making very precise multiple dados in a piece either straight or mitered by simply moving the fence. The width of the dado remains consistent as you move the fence.

Re: New Product
I made a few test cuts but have not done a project yet. I am, however, quite satisfied. A bit expensive for a small handful of hardware but worth it.

How do you order one through Lowes? I don't see it on the Lowes web site.masonsailor2 wrote: I ordered it through Lowes to get the military discount.

Re: New Product
OKAY. I understand the motivation but not the process or the results.
The Lowes website, much to my surprise, does make available some Shopsmith items. For example, the Lift Assist is available for $254.68 plus tax with free shipping (pickup in the store) less discount. The same item is available from Shopsmith for $239.39 plus tax and shipping.
I don't know if that works out as a good deal or not. You decide.
However, even after finding this web link, I was unable to order the Cross Cut Double Stop from Lowes. Awaiting the answer.
Now I have to try Woodcraft. Has anyone purchased Shopsmith items from Woodcraft other than what they offer at the in store demonstrations?
