I have a Shopsmith 610 Jigsaw and have looked at a used Shopsmith Scroll Saw.
What are the differences between the old Shopsmith model 610 Jigsaw versus the newer Shopsmith Scroll Saw?
Basically what are the advantages to the newer Shopsmith Scroll Saw?
I have the 610 jigsaw but have checked out a used Shopsmith Scroll Saw.
Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance! (P.S. I am sorry if this information was already reviewed in a thread, but I could not find it).

Re: Shopsmith 610 Jigsaw vs Shopsmith Scroll Saw
The names says it all.
A jig saw blade moves linearaly up/down. It is powered on the cutting(down) stroke and a spring drives the blade back up.
The scroll saw powers the blade at all times. The double bars maintain constant blade tension. The blade rocks forward slightly on the down stroke and backwards slightly on the up stroke.

Also, the scroll saw has a much larger table and there is a lot less vibration with the scroll saw. The scroll saw is very smooth compared to the jig saw. You will not regret getting the scroll saw.

On the pro side for the jig saw.
- They can use sabre saw blades, the upper arm can then be removed to cut larger pieces.
- they can use machine files to do power filing.

True, that is why I kept my jig saw when I got my scroll saw.rpd wrote:On the pro side for the jig saw.

That was my thinking too. I picked up a SS scroll saw last year (haven't had occasion to use it yet) but I will be keeping my A-34 (for 10er) jigsaw for the same reason.jsburger wrote:True, that is why I kept my jig saw when I got my scroll saw.
