Today in the shop (FLEX ABILITY)

So today was a sanding day...... not one of my favorite things to do but you have to do it sometimes. First up were some flag parts that decided to stick together and had some quality issues with paint getting where I didn't want it.

I tried to use some scrap wood which I had not cut and it turned out the saw cuts were not as nice as I would have like them to be and the results were not up to my standards so I had to sand them all and will be starting over on the paint process. Well this is already more details then you need so lets get to the subject.

I set up using my hose/cord holder as seen here.

I was using a porter cable sander and it has a small port so I attached the small hose adapter to it.

It fit but did not feel very snug and while it didn't fall off in use I kept thinking that it would. So I grabbed a cable tie and snugged that it up with that. Would it have worked for the whole project without it?? I don't know but the cable tie seem to work fine.

I think the best I can do is call this questionable. It doesn't fit as snug as I'd like without the cable tie but then maybe that is more me then a real issue.

A hose clamp with a thumb screw would be a nice addition rather than wasting cable ties.

Update:

Rockler has added two more ports to the collection. I have had mine sitting here for a while but they are moving from receiving to the shop today. When I was in the store the other week they did not have them so I placed an order for these and a couple of other things I wanted.

Working on a project today and needed to do some power sanding. Bosch RO sander now with the new adapter, it fits!

Working on yet another project today and decided to us my Porter Cable biscuit jointer. I don't recall having tried the Rockler hose with it before so I got out that to help control all the wood chips/saw dust. Worked fine.

So I'm still a real proponent of this system.

After a couple of decades in the vacuum cleaner industry i still have a number of different hose end adapters around.
I have a few vac hoses still around too.
I have been known to use a sump pump kit hose for sawdust. They are quite cheap and hold up reasonably well to abuse. They are also quite light weight.
I recently latched onto a batch of different brands of swimming pool filter hoses for pennies each at a yard sale. I've not tried those yet but think they will work fine for my needs.
I have even saved back a couple of my wife's old CPAP machine hoses. Kind of small diameter but might be useful...
I keep a fairly large supply of cable ties in the farm shop and buying in bulk they are pretty cheap. A while back I bought a tool box with some "stuff" in the drawers. Nothing like the one I bought in October but a handful of decent stuff. Among the stuff was a cable tie tensioner and I had no idea how handy of a tool it was until I started using it. It is surprising how tight you can pull one.

A issue I have with vac eq is the dust cans , I am on a 4 lbs weight limit and all I would get done would be emptying a small container, its easier for me to just sweep up .
