Beginning platform bed
I have started the platform bed for my daughter. I used pilot holes, clearance holes and countersink for the screws. They will be screwed from the inside of the one 3/4" rail and glue and nail gun the second 3/4" finish rail to it. Nailed from inside so nothing shows. Here are first two photos of the legs screwed and glued and the two 3/4" sides glued and clamped. The offset is for the cross supports, 3/4" ply and about a 1/2" recess for the mattress.

Latest steps - finished all rails, doubled the 3/4 cleats for the slats to make a 1-1/2 inch resting area. Mounted the hardware for joining the rails. Capped the ends of the plywood rails that will show. Mounted 2x4 joist hangers to hold the center support beam (2x4). Plugged a missing knot hole in the support beam. Will sand and fill. Next comes the dry fit and then cutting the quasi slats to size. Since they are made of 3/4 plywood and my daughter wants it to look sorta like a platform bed I will cut them in sizes that are manageable for her. I have the sides clamped together to help lessen any warpage while waiting to finish and deliver to my daughter.

Bed finished except for the plywood edging. Here are the last photos. The platform is in several sections so that my daughter can handle and I put a hole in each end of the center section so she can remove it without getting her fingers pinched or smashed. Pretty basic but still more work than my old body is use to. I knew there was a reason I didn't use sheet goods much any more.

Unfortunately she wants to paint it to match furniture she has. She will be doing that. I say unfortunately because I prefer staining. She has done a good job on her furniture and I expect no less on the bed.
