Good news and bad news: Turning dry wood.

The bad news First:
The dry wood, will wear your tools faster and the cutting will go slower. Be prepared to sharpen regularly and often compared to turning we wood.
You will generate more "Dust" and fewer "peelings".

The good news is:
You don't have to wear rain gear while turning!
You don't have to protect your lathe from the moisture either.
You don't need to wait for the wood to deform as it dries and then turn again. Just go straight to finishing!

I know they are supposed to be taboo, but many turners wear a glove or fingerless glove on their left hand to keep from getting burned by the shavings when turning dry wood.

Ok, I'm still here :) My next project will be a Star45 wooden radio controlled sailboat. I'll post photos as I go along.
