Robo Calls

Re: Robo Calls
I get 10 to 20 per day. Unfortunately my business number was listed on the web AND some deadbeat had the number before. Apparently, I made several inquiries in to pain management, business loans, google advertising, credit increases, travel to Burmuda, and owe money to lots of people. Nothing works. They just spoof their numbers and if you dare "press one for a representative" just proves you are an active mark and they just sell the number to more people. It took a lawsuit to stop collection calls for another person and they stopped at least. But the spammers / scammers... They just use VOIP overseas and route through spoofed numbers and call over and over.

I guess it did since she has not gotten another one after she called the sheriff.JPG wrote:Hope it does some good!jsburger wrote:Well of course she doesn't and it continues. She blocked the call and then they call back on a different number one digit different. Do the iteration.JPG wrote:Ya gots caller id?
Just do not answer!
Or get a phone that will filter(not actually ring) out programmed numbers.
My point is that the Weber County Sheriff actually called ad told the the person to stop and there is a police report

Re: Robo Calls
I already got one of the political calls this week. It said, "We're conducting a survey." My answer was, "I don't do surveys."

This works only with wifi connected phones. It will not work with pots landlines. POTS - Plain Old Telephone Service.beeg wrote:I use this service to stop robo calls. http://www.nomorobo.com/phone/create
Re: Robo Calls
+1 for nomorobo - it's free* and we've had it since September. It catches most spam calls (the phone rings once and stops). But yes, it only works on VOIP (Internet or cable based systems like FIOS or Xfinity), because you have to be able to auto call-forward to two different numbers.

Re: Robo Calls
My Wife is an Assistant Manager at a Credit Union and sees fraud every day. People come in to get a Cashiers Check or Cash to "pay off" some "legal fine, IRS dept, or other thing" and they try to stop them from doing it. Some still get the money and give it away. It's sad.
I too get calls both on our home phone (POTS) and cell phone daily from "Robo Calls". If I do not know the number I DO NOT answer it. Yes, I apparently owe the IRS a lot of back taxes and am going to jail if I don't pay up even though I recently received my tax refund for 2017. I also have arrest warrants out for me in Idaho but haven't been through that state in over 20 years. What happened to the statue of limitations?
One thing we have done to help protect against getting charges buy being "tricked" into saying "yes" over the phone is to block charging anything to our cell phone number.
It almost makes you want to give up having a phone at all. It seems all we are doing is paying for a service to harass and bother us.

Re: Robo Calls
We don't have a home phone so no problem there. We get occasional robo calls on our cell phones. They are occasional as in one a week or less. The one I mentioned in this thread was every day or two and always left a voice mail message. The voice mail is unusual from my experience. As I said the county sheriff called the return number and actually talked to a person. He told them to cease and desist and so far they have not called again.chapmanruss wrote:My Wife is an Assistant Manager at a Credit Union and sees fraud every day. One thing I have noticed lately is the number spoofing. Most of the calls show a number that is my area code AND my prefix. I don't get calls from anyone I know that has my prefix. Mostly I don't answer but sometimes I do if I am expecting a call from someone that I don't know their number. When I do I pick up the phone I do not say anything. Usually there is silence and the other end hangs up.
