Oh, I thought maybe it was for using the router. I will try and find the right one.

The part I need to make for my window sash is the tongue side of the tongue and groove. I got pretty far off track with this post, but what is the best way to make it. Is it better to use the Moulder or shaper attachment, just a dado blade, or a router attachment? Also if I don't have it what is the best thing to buy? I will also have to make the recess the glass pane sits in.

It is for using a router, just on a different machine. It seems you're right that we strayed from the topic quit a bit.

As far as making tongue and groove, I thinke the easiest and fastest Is to use a set of router bits in a router table. The set I use is from from Sommerfeld which is the same as CMT bits. It's nice because you can do each piece in a single pass.

There are also window sash sets available that that mill the entire profile for the window sash as well as the mating ends to put it together. It's like a rail and stile set for cabinet doors but bigger.

I've never done any shaping or routing on my ShopSmith since I have a deicated router table. I have a newer 510 and don't have a speed increaser so the max speed is too slow for routing or shaping anyway.

I've done all this with just a table saw and a fair number of passes to everything and it works, but you have to be perfect to get everything to fit together nicely.

If you don't have a router or router table, and you're on a budget, Ryobi makes some servicable bentop router tables and decent routers.

If I did not have either a shaper or a molder or a router, I would simply use a plain saw blase. By taking successive passes the tongue and the rabbet(for the glass) can be accomplished.

Just takes more time and is more error prone.

I may try it with the router set up, I think the over head router with the fence may help me keep nice lines. Im curious about the sash kit, Im going to do some research. The next problem is the window sash is chestnut, I'm guessing its basically impossible to get any, what would would look close? I'm not sure if I can get the sash out without breaking anything. The bottom of the sash where the rot is located is getting loose. Im hoping to just gently hammer the bottom of the sash out and duplicate it and then gently hammer and glue the new one into place. Then reset my glass.
