SS Backorder Notice

Post by jsburger »

I just noticed this in the on line catalog. I don't know how long it has been going on but it is much better than the " It may be backordered or made upon ordering" that previously existed. The only question is if the dates are any good.

I have seen it on other items in the catalog and I believe it is fairly new. As for the available date being accurate only time will tell. I don't know how far behind they are on orders but I have one I placed 6/20 and the status is
Open Items Not Shiped Yet
and they even spelled Shipped wrong. I know they have had a big turnover in employees recently so there is a learning curve involved here, but better communication would be nice. If there are Back Orders involved that delay shipping I think they should send an email to let us know and if in stock items should be shipped right away. I have had a whole order held up by an item on Back Order for months that they had no availability date for and I never received. It was finally cancelled by me and I bought a nice used one. Only after contacting them did they ship the in stock items. Okay enough for me standing on the soap box for today.

I have this package on order and have been informed by Shopsmith that they will be made in September, 2018. I'll post how I like or don't like it.

Maybe, just maybe...we should all be more thankful that Shopsmith still manufacturers and sells parts - especially for older machines!!!

What, pray tell did you order?

I have the Planer/Jointer Knife Sharpening setup and I find sharpening the knives easy. It give the knives a smooth even surface. I really like doing Jointer knives since you can do all 3 at once. Sharp, nick free knives are a joy to use.

Dusty and John you both asked
What, pray tell did you order?
In June of 2015 I ordered the Grinding Wheel Guard along with 4 other items. Two items, a repair part and an arbor were sent within a month while the other three items were listed as back ordered. After waiting and calling I finally found out the Grinding Wheel Guard was more than back ordered, they did not have a manufacturer to make it at that time. I cancelled the remaining order of an Arbor, a Grinding Wheel & the Guard and bought the used one. The Arbor and Grinding Wheel had been held up with the B/O that included the Guard which had no availability date. This was now the Fall of 2015.

I did receive a package from Shopsmith today. I ordered 13 items, was charged for all but two items on the 12th and received 9 items in the package. The box the order came in is to small for one of the missing items which is half the cost of the order. I'll be calling Shopsmith tomorrow. :(

Just got off the phone with Shopsmith about the two missing items. They have been reordered and should be on their way soon. Both are in stock. The lady who helped was very pleasant and agreed that the order shipping weight was to low to have included the larger missing item.

As for the two washers I had ordered, but are no longer showing on the order and not charged for, they have been discontinued. It's to bad since they are the tongue washer for the 1/2" Universal Arbor and the same as the tongue washer for the 1/2" Shaper Spindle. These little buggers sometimes go missing and are hard to find. I looked locally for the one for the 5/8" Molder/Dado Arbor and found one supplier but would have to order $50 worth of them. That's the minimum order from their supplier. These little tongue washers have been in use on the Shopsmith Arbors since 1954. It would be nice to be able to get replacements and not have to buy a whole new Arbor.

How many washers constitute $50 worth.

Since many of use use them (I think), maybe there is a market for them.
