Mark V headstock repair

I'm doing a general rebuild on Mark V based on "exploded diagram" on website and several youtubes. It makes sense, but I don't see how to get to screw 118 ("cup point set screw" in the "motor and sheave assembly"). It appears to be between the fan sheave & motor, but I can't move the fan sheave.

Is that the setscrew that you have to get to from underneath?

Access to that set screw is through a small hole in the bottom of the motor pan near the louver.

I'm confused about screw #s 48 and 104. Screw #104 is listed as a #6 by 3/8 inch pan head screw. I'm pretty sure that is the screw that hold the entire idler shaft in the housing (together with screw # 47). I see that screw (I think). There is also screw # 104 that is listed as a #10 by 3/4 inch pan head screw. I did not encounter it during the tear down. There is one screw on some machines that holds the eccentric bushing to the idler shaft. My machine does not have that screw. Is that screw # 48? It seems awfully big to be holding the eccentric busing to the idler shaft.

Could you post a picture of your idler shaft assembly? There was a production change that may be in play.

It changed the eccentric as well as the one piece "water pump style" bearing held by a setscrew in eccentric to the groove in the bearing assembly, to a new style, with two visible bearings, a new eccentric, and a washer with screw into the eccentric.

The very latest have the screw at 12 o'clock position and many of us use a slightly oversize fender washer to ensure we catch both the eccentric and part of the outer bearing to hold it in place.

The early machines 1954 had no retainer and a production change added the two clips you see below with the tension bolt passing through the hole in them. The wide U kept them from walking out (or in for that matter)

These are probably too old for your machine, but they were the first idler bearing retainers.

Everett, just for your info the eccentric in my pre-clutch Gilmer drive Greenie does not have the set screw but it does have the split. I will try to get some pictures of it next time I am in the shop.
