What is this part?
This keyless chuck came with my 1952 Shopsmith 10ER. I don't think it's a Shopsmith part, is it? The chuck is smaller than a Jacobs chuck, about 1 3/4" long by 1 1/4" wide. What would a Shopsmith owner have used this for?

You are correct. Although it may fit on the Shopsmith's 5/8" reverse tapered spindle the arbor is not a Shopsmith arbor. It has two set screws and with one exception all Shopsmith Arbors, Spindles, Chucks etc. ever made that attach to the Shopsmith's spindle have only a single set screw. The exception is the 2-1/2" Jointer Head made from the late 1940's through the 1950's which had two set screws. Someone may have used this arbor and chuck because they did not have the chuck that came with the Shopsmith or liked the key-less feature. I would remove the washers to use it for that. Without the chuck it is an Arbor to hold anything with it's threaded shaft size, example wire wheel, buffing wheel etc.
