Woodpeckers Bevel Square
I ordered the Woodpeckers One Time Tool Bevel Square set when it was first announced the first week of July.
https://www.woodpeck.com/bevel-square-18.html
As with all their one time tools you pre-order and get the tool 3 or 4 months later after they make them. These were supposed to start shipping in November. Last week I got an email saying they would start shipping early. They charged my card on 15 Jul and the package arrived today.
I have a few of their one time tools and these are really impressive. Heavy and rock solid. Absolutely beautiful craftsmanship as is their norm. Yes you pay for it but it is like buying Starrett tools.

Really nice tool to have in your treasure chest BUT
at that price ($139.99) I will just have to find a way to make do with what I have. Thankfully, this has proven to be as reliable and versatile as I ever need.

I looked at that tool but hesitated, buy it as it was a pretty large expenditure over and above what I had budgeted this year for unexpected finds. Tempting fate I later ordered the smaller one with the gauge, and you are right this was not cheap. My card has not been charged and since mine order was later then yours who knows when it will arrive.
Lee Valley has a version of this which I have also looked at over the years. The gauge is the key to making this a great tool, it has to lock firm and not move when tightened. This is an issue with some of these gauges, and I know I have several of them.
I really liked the bevel gauge with the tighter located at the bottom. I've had issues with the one like what Dusty has and the wing nut to the side. I do have a Stanley with the tightener on the bottom. I got it at an antique store and it is not in particularly good condition but all metal. I don't see any identification information as to a model number but here is a picture of it:
How ever the real gem of this is the Angle Reference Plate. It has scales down to 1/4 degree! I can't wait to check it out.
Yea I'm a sucker for tools and more then likely get carried away buying things but still its the one with the most tools who wins, right?

It is hard to budget for woodpeckers tools as you have little knowledge of what they will be making in the future. As a guess I put $125 in that slot, well this one tool along is going to be $172.04. So yes well over budget and something else will have to suffer.dusty wrote:Budget? Pretty loose budget.
In the end I try to keep the years spending amount as close as I can in their groups but something are not accounted for and must be adjusted so the end totals comes out. Too early to see what falls off the list towards the end of the year.
I also try to even the spending month by month. Since this was a ship and pay in Nov. but might come this month or next sort of messes things up. Nice to have the tools early but.... not so good for planing.
I think the better term is flexible budget rather then loose budget. Last years purchase of the Shaper Origin late in the year blew out the budget and even messed with this years. Done now but several things had to be eliminated this year to fix the issue. Glad I did it but adjusting other tools out for this year hurt my plans.

Pay using paypal and they charge it when you order it, no planning needed. Happy tool buying.
Re: Woodpeckers Bevel Square
I like the idea of the angle gage ,many times I used 2 sliding t bevels on a project , that would be sort of pricey .I think I have 3 or 4 of them and I also agree dont like the wing nut on the side , my old stanley is still my go to
Woodpecker also makes one with a thumb nut

Are you saying that the Big Box won't have a thumb nut that would fit?Hobbyman2 wrote:Dusty I would have to order something , we dot really have a good hardware store here any longer , since the big box came to town, they sort of ran every one off . That is a good idea though .
