That was the date on the source document it is based on. Date Feb 1981JPG wrote:1981?????????????
The "C" headstock would come in 1991, but if you look at even the online parts today, the illustration for the headstock cross bar is still the "A" headstock opposed to the later curved crossbar on all subsequent headstocks.

Hi Everett,
I have to agree with JPG as to 1981???
The early version spare parts list from Shopsmith Inc. I have is copyright 1958 and is the same as the two I have from Yuba dated 9/58 and 3/59. These were a separate document as the parts diagrams were not included in the 3 Owners Manuals I have copyright 1957 from Magna PTC (4:57), Yuba (3/59) and early Shopsmith Inc. (Bulletin No. 4286 1/73). These manuals still used the pictures of the "A" Headstock Greenie that were in the first manual.
Everett, I will try to get the next Mark 5 manual to you soon, as my "Honey Do" list is slowing down. That should be the 4th manual and I may pull the staples to copy it which should keep the pages straight.

Also the motor shaft 'nut' was replaced with a cup and clip at least 20 years before 1981.

Re: 1981 Headstock Parts drawing for George
When I get back next week I will scan the 4 pages in the document it came from.
I reoriented it to portrait, rotated the text and added thicker more visible blue lines. The one I took it from had thin red lines but George wanted the portrait version so I sent him that.
I have seen that illustration in other documents but didn’t notice the motor, just the headstock casting was an “A” and the motor was too. The Poly-V came around 1960, but it’s in the drawing

Yes the poly v pulleys are there, but also is the old nylon dust cap(not the coupler) and the splined shaft to match it.
OK short cuts were taken and it is not representative of a 1981 headstock in those few 'details'. Very useful as is.

Re: 1981 Headstock Parts drawing for George
Nice to have help at home. I didn't have to wait to scan it.
I had source document scanned and sent to me so I could post it so folks can see what it came from and how I revised it for George.
George is a newbie friend with a Shopsmith project I met on Facebook. I don't think he is a forum member here. He wanted some nomenclature reference but did not like what he had. I found a copy of the same document he had, in my files and revised it for him
My Seven side by side headstocks drawing is more illustrative of changes through the years.

Shopsmith Inc. was formed in 1972, and they had been back 9 years in 1981. They were lazy and took an old drawing I suspect.chapmanruss wrote:Hi Everett,

Who would have made a document for the Shopsmith in 1981 since it was out of production.
