Inherited Shopsmith, Have quesitons

Post by kking08 »

Good afternoon,

a few years ago my grandfather passed away and I have been storing his old shop smith ever since. Recently I have had to move and have decided to sell his old shop smith. I feel that it sitting in my garage is a waste and it needs to go to someone who would actually use this machine. Question is i do not know the model or what would be a current value. Does anyone know the model of this machine? Also what would be a fair asking price for this in its current condition.

Thanks for your time.

Pictures or a really good description would be needed to be able to ID it.

I don't have an answer for that. Did you get any error message when trying to attach a photo? That would give you some information about why it didn't work.
Photos need to fit within a certain size limit. I don't know what that size is, but if you search the forum, the information is here somewhere.
You could try resizing your photos to a smaller size and see if that makes a difference.

Pictures have to be under a certain horizontal and vertical pixel size (I don't have those sizes off the top of my head) and also be under 2MB in file size. I just resize to 1024X768 and it meets both criteria.

I think my issue was that the pictures were 4.5 MB. I re sized them and added links to my original post.

It's better to have pictures inserted within the post, as years from now links to photo sharing web sites may not work. For the benefit of others, I've copied your pictures and attached below. I have a fair idea of what you have, but will let more experienced members give you that answer.

Although it says Model ER it is a Model 10ER. The Shopsmith Model 10E was introduced in 1947 and made through 1953 during which time it became the 10ER. It was replaced by the Mark 5. I do not understand why it has the black dial 1 to 10 in the middle of the Logo/Serial Number plate. Does it do something? It is not a standard part for the Shopsmith. The motor on it looks newer than the Shopsmith itself. It could use and benefit from some TLC/rust removal. As for how much you could sell it for, it is hard to say. I have paid from $0 to about $300 for ones I have bought to restore and that depends greatly on their condition and what they have with them. I own or have owned 22 Model 10's, 16 of which have already been restored. Any additional questions let us know.
Russ

I do have some addtional tools with it, the black knob is for the motor speed, it can be increased or decreased. I am not sure when/why that was added
