life is a hypothetical , Hypothetical's will also save your life, I use a PPE'S / face shield when turning on the lathe ,,in case,, something flies apart . That is a hypothetical ? you have to carry your DL ,,in case you need it ?
A major problem in todays world seems to be more like lack of common sense .JMO

The thread's old, but I just wanted to say that it was not a bad idea, OP. I'm not sure if it was worth doing a reconstruction instead of building one. Some developers buy a piece of land, build a house for a single-family, and rent it out then. Sometimes it is more difficult and expensive to repair an old house than build a new one. However, I like the idea that you will build a new one later and let this old one work. It wouldn't be smart to just let it stay while you collect money to build a new one.
------------
We could have went either way , with the current price of lumber it would be nearly impossible to build a 2 story house for the same cost .

Did you take some consultation with the construction company about the building plan and the risks of replacing the old fundaments and bricks?
