Shaper Origin Available Again

Post by jsburger »

For those of you that might be interested in purchasing a Shaper Origin hand held CNC router, they are available again. I got an emaile today from Shaper (shapertools.com).

"We’re happy to announce that we will reopen ordering for new Origin units starting October 23rd, at 6:00 am Pacific Time!"

They’d better sell a lot of them! Lest anyone doubt that new-product development is expensive, Shaper has reportedly raised over $16 million in development capital.

The price is going to be prohibitive for a lot of hobby people at $2499 but cheap for cnc like tools.

I don't see getting another one unless something happens to mine but some people will for a more business like environment where you make money with them.

It takes money to make money sometimes.

This falls right in line with the PowerPro upgrade. I would like to have both but the cost is prohibitive. No way will I dump another $5000 into my shop.

I don't remember for sure. I want to say that when I ordered it the delivery was around 6 months but then it shipped a little early. Ed ordered his just after me. Maybe he has a better recollection of the time.

I would expect deliveries to be quicker this time around since they have the issues worked out on the manufacturing line and have had time to build some inventory. I think if your order before the end of October he will get $100 off. I would inquire either by Email or phone. They have been pretty responsive.

Here is a quote from a Shaper email I got today regarding the availability of the Origin.

"Origin is now available, starting at $2499. We are shipping to users in the United States only at this time. Orders placed today will begin shipping in January 2019, with orders fulfilled on a first come, first served basis."

I snagged a 1st generation Shaper Origin that had never been taken out of the SYS container for $1,850 shipped. More than the guy paid for it when he bought it but a bunch less than a new one today. Received it yesterday and it is as advertised, never used, turns on, etc. Be a little while before I can test it out. My adult son is going to test drive it this week though.

It has a learning curve but it sure is fun once you get going with it. I'm pretty sure you are going to love it.

A bit of advice, make sure the son knows that you want it back.... he might just be tempted to keep it.
