What are the rarest Shopsmith accessories?

On my 10er I have the jointer mounted on the hinged headrest, and through this forum I've been told that this is a somewhat rare setup. I've been wondering what other accessories are rare or hard to find for both the 10er and the Mark V?

For the 10ER,

Lower saw guard. and lower belt guard.

and the 10E Table Raiser

The lamp and flexible shaft are also quite rare.

The 10E came with a threaded chuck; Jacobs 33B. There is a threaded adapter for the chuck that is quite rare.

The 10E fence came with no lockdown for the rear. But they came out with a rear lockdown for it after the fact. Also rare. I am in need of both of these.

There is a two step pulley that I believe is rare.

Not sure how rare it is, but the key switch is at least hard to find.

I just noticed something about the Table Raiser photo. Mine is similar to the one on the right. But mine has a steel block that guides the rod and sits cradled in to the cast body. The one on the right has no block. The hole for the shaft is part of the body.

In other words- I have the cast body from the one on the left. And the knob from the one on the right. Then they added the steel block to guide the rod.

Taking a wild guess I'm thinking mine is version 2. The block of steel was eliminated and became part of the casting in what I would call version 3.

No that is not part of the body. It is a separate cast iron block. It has to move or the rod will not go up and down. I would suggest that the owner of yours bought the original version and when version 2 came out he made a modification with the block to imitate version 2.

As I see it the problem with version 1 is that when the height adjustment knob is turned the lock collar can turn making the set screw inaccessible so you can't make large adjustments to the riser rod. Version 2 has the ears on it that ride on the sides of the main body preventing rotation. You can see the block a little more clearly in the attached picture.

You are right. That cast piece has to slide up and down. Just like my block has to slide up and down.

Not enough coffee for such an early post. 🙂

Looking at an accessory page it looks like my block in place. But who knows.

In the picture Ron posted of the Table Riser Assemblies, which looks suspiciously like mine, there are two different main piece castings. The one on the left is the same as the one from the ad and the same as John's and Bruce's. The one on the right is a bit different as it has a stop for the cast collar that is on it and is the same collar as the one John has. I recall seeing one somewhere that has the collar similar to Bruce's square one but with a slightly rounded back. I have 2 of the one on the right that are the same. Both came with damage to the lock knob. One with a broken off threaded brass stud and the other with what looks like 2 drill holes in the face on the knob. This was the less common Table Raiser Assembly made for the Model 10's.

I believe the rarest accessory for the Model 10 is the lower belt guard. I have yet to see one for sale either on it's own or with a Model 10. It is followed by the Lower Blade Guard. The rear fence lock for the original 10E fence is not very common. The key switch and the two step pulley are harder to find than more common accessories.

Although included with the purchase of a Model 10 I believe these next two items are worth mentioning. The Jacobs 33BA chuck is still available today, but the use of the Jacobs 33B Chuck with the Chuck Arbor P/N 102-47X was not available for very long as the Drill Chuck was replaced by the new Jacobs 3326 Chuck. The original Upper Blade Guard with the slots in the side and it's splitter was not available very long and was discussed in the thread New to Me Model 10E Serial Number 1077 linked below.

Finally if we look at the picture of the Model 10 from the original typed manual there are several differences between what is shown there and believed to be a pre-production Shopsmith and what came out with the first Model 10E's. The 4 ribbed Sanding Disk, the saw blade arbor and others come to mind.

Getting to this point I really can't think of any hard to find Mark 5 accessories. There are Mark 2 and VII items along with the Sawsmith items that are hard to find. Does anyone know what Arbor P/N 517118 was for? Did you know the SawSmith Table Saw had a different Molder Head? Bruce you are not allowed to answer that one.

There seems to be a lot of broken ones out there... I keep my posts waxed but if I ever broke it I would redesign it.

I think the SPT Adapters and Power Mount Coupling kit are kind of rare.

The SPT Adapter Kit Bruce shows is rare and the original coupler set is too but the coupler and hubs are still available today in their revised form.
