Question about routing.

Post by Ronald56 »

Question about routing.
I have a cnc router and several hand routers, all of which use a compression collets.
My question is , how safe is the Shopsmith method of set screw on the router collets?
Can you use any standard router bits or must you use only Shopsmith bits to insure safety?

I have the Shopsmith 1/2" and 1/4" router bit adapters. I use them with a variety of router bits (Whiteside, etc.).

If you overtighten the setscrews, you can dent the shanks of your bits.

I haven't had any problems, but I'm very careful with them.

They are also superb adapters for stuff like rotary planer heads, Powerstrop wheels, etc.

Good luck,
Chris
