just receved shipment

Post by ralphtaff »

Well i just received my order from Shopsmith and wow. Right in front of me the sticker said MADE IN TAIWAN. The object in question was a 3 3/4 inch face plate. And i was lead to believe that Shopsmith was American made. So much for that, its like all the promises that obama has stated about changes. What changes?,where was the face plate made? It seems to me, we as Americans are being lied to by every one out there. Boy that felt good to get it off my mind.

My guess would be about 50 or more percent of the Shopsmith line is made overseas. For example, the bandsaw castings are finalized and assembled in Dayton OH but the actual casting molded body comes from you know where!

My new Lift Assist has a big gold sticker on it, also from you know where.

I myself prefer to have items made in USA but it's really hard to find any actual US made products...

Your own home would be the closest thing made in the USA but then the electronics in your heating and airconditioning system come from Asia, if not Mexico.

My kids and grandkids were made in the USA!

Hi doug,
It is apparent that some of the SS product is KNOT USA made. That is disappointing, especially after Nick, when presented with this same observation, informed us otherwise. Any amount of foriegn made product as being in the Mark V and it's accessories suggested by us, will be complete speculation. It may be as you say; over 50%, but it may be a much smaller amount. Complete speculation. It is knot the end of the world...yet. I have hope. There were a couple of members here that have suggested that with the world wide economic slowdown, and/or with the high cost of shipping, it may become, once again, more profitable for manufacturers to tool up here. We shall see. IMHO, a lot of that will depend on the cost of paying employees, i.e., how the unions will react.

As you pointed out, there will always be SOME USA made items here!:D
