Dumb question, is there anything i would use a new digital motor for other than lathe work for slower speeds and reverse operation?

rjent pretty much covered it. The higher and lower speeds would be very useful as well as more power. I personally don't think I would ever use the reverse feature, but if I had it, I might some day.

I do use the reverse on mine with the Strip Sander for sharpening lathe chisels.

I don't know a lot but I read it ramps up to speed drawing lower amps and thus not popping your breaker. I also read that it sense if it needs more power to maintain speed thus giving you a more consistent cut. It won't bog down. Less burning.

Thanks guys. I have a hand router that does 10k rpm. Instead of spending $1,600 for the upgrade I thought I would buy a digital motor lathe for $600. It reverses, has speeds from 400 to 3,900. I figured it would work fine for my pen and bottle stoppers and I can an extension bed for doing longer turns.
