Bob, please read the article. There was indeed a Mark I. The author even has the manual for it. Apparently they only sold two.

You wonder why I said "The Mark I does remind me a little of the Shop Deputy and the function of the Mark I is similar to the Crafter's Station." Well when I look at the functions of the Mark I as shown in the Tool-Hunter information both the Mark I and the Crafter's Station function as a smaller Table Saw base beside powering SPT's. Both have the larger expandable table system like the Mark V 510. The Mark I is similar to the Shop Deputy except the standard Shop Deputy doesn't have a carriage. They of course all have differences but none work as a Drill Press. Only the Shop Deputy as configured with it's 26" Way Tubes can tilt but doesn't have a carriage and table. The Mark I can do horizontal boring but the Crafter's Station cannot since it doesn't have a movable Quill and the Shop Deputy doesn't have a table. Each can do things the others cannot.

Perhaps I need to review tool hunter's Mark 1 description, but IIRC it is essentially a Mark 5/V 500 with nothing below the way tubes(no benchtubes and no legs).

Yes, but the end castings that support the way tubes are completely different.

As they would need to be, to easily mount to a shop-made bench (10ER style). Come to think of it, a pair of those castings would be mighty handy for adapting a Mark V as a wall-mount drill press. I kinda doubt that the mothership still has any in stock, though.
