When there is a question of SN coverage it is useful to provide pictures. I suggest providing a picture of the SN plate or sticker, along with pictures of the headstock and main table. Make sure you review the thread on including pictures, as the forum software is pretty picky. (You'll find that under 'Community' in the first few threads.)

Serial Number 262266 should belong to a Mark 5 Greenie made in March 1954, The first serial number on the Serial Number by Production Date list is for April 1954 and is S/N 263051. The last Serial Number from Shopsmith Inc. before date codes is from November 1987 and is S/N SS 222390. Less than 300 Mark V 500 tools were being made in the months prior. Also note that a Shopsmith Mark V with a Serial Number made by Shopsmith Inc. will have the SS prefix before the serial number.

Great, we have than identified your Mark 5 as one made in the original production of the Mark 5 introduced and for sale beginning in March of 1954. Unless it has had any upgrades it has the "A" Headstock, is or was originally Green and Silver in color and referred to a "Greenie".
Do you have the Owner's Manual for it? It will be a great help in using and caring for your Shopsmith tool. If you do not have the manual you can find a PDF restored manual here through the Forum. Check under the Maintenance and Repair section for Shopsmith Large Format Drawings, Illustrations and More by Everett Davis. This will be one of the first three topics. In it you will find a wealth of information on the Shopsmith tools. Some are directly linked there and others are on “My Google Drive” with documents too large to be directly linked. Everett has become the Shopsmith historian by saving and restoring manuals and other documents. The first three restored Mark 5 manuals are on his google drive. You should use the first manual as it has the parts list and exploded views that go with your Mark 5. The operation information is the same. If your Mark 5 has had upgrades such as Glimer Drive changed to the Poly V Drive, we can help with information on that too.
I highly recommend doing the maintenance on the headstock before operating it. Also check, while having the belt cover off, that the belts are in good shape and the pulleys are in line. The first Mark 5's did not have the retainer for the Idler Bearing. Without these the bearing tended to slip out of it's mounting. You can check the PDF copy of the second or third manual for part number A3274 to compare to your headstock to see if these were added to your Mark 5.

Note that the "A" Headstock does not have the access hole behind the rear SHOPSMITH logo plate unless someone modified it.

I appreciate this info! I checked it out with the cover off and all looked good. I have used the jointer only this far. I don’t have the chuck for the lathe that connects to the head. I have lots of attachments that came along with it. Band saw. Table saw. Disc sander. Jointer. And some stuff I don’t know what it is. But I’ll figure it out. Thanks again.
