You will read some astounding information; some of which I learned a few years ago about how the DOD saves 2 billion dollars annually by not replacing expired drugs.

Re: The Myth of Drug Expiration Dates
Ditto 'best used by dates'.
I recall coworkers having a discussion regarding candy from a vending machine. Now these two individuals were office (cubby to the younger set) mates. The stocker of the vending machine would throwaway outdated stuff when the machine was serviced(filled). The stocker used a trash receptacle adjacent to the vending machine.
One(#1) of the two office mates talked the stocker into just placing the 'expired' candy on TOP of the trash receptacle rather than IN it. This method of disposal continued and everyone privy to it was pleased - except for office mate #2.
On the day of the discussion mentioned initially above, #1 picked up one of the 'discarded' candy bars from the top on the trash container and began to unwrap it.
#2 said to #1 "you are not going to eat that out of date candy bar are you?'.
#1 replied "Why not?. It is the same age as what you purchased, unwrapped and ate yesterday!".
