Quite some time ago I installed a used 2hp Harbor Freight dust collector using 4in drain pipe without blast gates. It worked ok but wasn't very efficient.
I used the ring master to make the flanges (P1). There wasn't sufficient clearance to use the ringmaster on the main body. So I set up a drill press jig and used a adjustable circle cutter to drill a 4in hole in the main body (P2). On the 9th hole the Gilmer belt broke (P3) . I don't know If I pushed it to far or the belt was ready to go anyway. Next step was to assemble the gates. I used a strip o the same material as the blast gate slides to make the guides and added some tape to create clearance or the slides (P4). P5 & P6 show a before and after of the installed blast gates.
As a note replacing the belts and bearings in the head stock cost about $85 dollars. A blast gate kit including installation pieces cost $37.

Nice gates and wasn't it more fun making them than buying them? As for the Mark 5 Gilmer belt breaking that was probably going to happen soon anyway.
