Today's walk, the owl element
Walking by this small body of water I noticed what I thought might be a nest.
It was beyond my normal vision range but when I got the camera up and zoomed out it was clear as day. That was an owl nest and it had a baby owl in it. This is a 65X, not as clear as it could be but I was hand holding, so none of those things are in your favor....
A short while later either the mother or dad showed up. Think some food was exchanged but I couldn't make it out.
They sat together for as long as I stayed. More then likely checking me out here:
Love when this sort of thing happens, just wish I could get a little closer......

Re: Today's walk, the owl element
Nice to see. I'm not happy with a particular owl around here right now. We take our cat out early each morning for a walk. Last week a great horned owl went after my Wife and grabbed her by the arm. Luckily he realized his mistake early and let go before tearing up her arm or her coat. The coat suffered a bit, but her arm didn't.
If he tries that with me, I'll do my best to see that he isn't capable of doing it again.

yikes! I thought I had trouble with the one that is on my roof at night making noise and keeping me awake.garys wrote:Nice to see. I'm not happy with a particular owl around here right now. Apparently the bird world has their own retarded members that can't tell the difference between a human and a rodent. (At least we don't let them vote.)
Re: Today's walk, the owl element
Nice! Some great pictures you were able to capture. A few years ago, there was a great horned owl perched on top of a Mexican Fan Palm in my neighbors yard. I came out and watched it for maybe 20 seconds before it took off. I would guess it was about 2 feet tall and when it flew off, the wingspan must have been nearly 6 feet across. I would have loved to have had some pics but this was at dusk. Even if I could have grabbed a camera before it flew off, my snaps likely wouldn't have turned out. I haven't seen another owl in/around Phoenix since that one, so he must have been just passing through my neighborhood.

Wow, these are great!
I hear owl(s) all the time by our house; I've only caught sight of one, one time.
Thanks for posting

Re: Today's walk, the owl element
Haven't been keep the forum up to date on the owls but these are all videos I shot this morning of the young owl out of the nest with a parent near by. The young one is lighter colored and on the top of the frame, leaves are fast closing in on this adventure.
