Since self isolating, like many of you, I got back in the shop. I decided to make a couple of bird houses but the plans called for a ridge cap made from a piece of outside corner molding to cover the seam at the top. I have plenty of inside corners but no outside.
Normally I would have made a trip to the local big box store and bought a piece, but that is not advised. So I decided to make my own. I used a V bit in my router table to route a groove down the center of a 1 x 2 and then the bandsaw to cut the outside angles. The angles are a bit sharper than the shoud be , but it worked.
Since my dear wife is also going stir crazy, I'll give her the job of painting them.
Pictures to follow when they are completed.
Take care and stay safe.

Yea all this free time has got me feeling frisky. I got hopped up on a bunch of cool little blacksmithing channels on youtube and went and built myself a little forge. Getting steel to forging temperatures was easier than I thought, just had to buy something called an insulating fire brick and it heats right up. Of course you need an air supply and a safe place to put the hearth but that stuff is pretty straight forward. I’ll post pictures if I can get around to making anything I’m not totally ashamed of. It’s all pretty ugly atm, building a forge doesn’t automatically make you a blacksmith apparently.
I would love to see a picture of those bird houses, keep us posted John. I love finding the silver lining in things, and this pandemic induced boredom has inspired creativity in a number of people I know. I think that part of this whole phenomenon is great!
