Shaper Compatability
I don't see anything on the Shopsmith website that would lead me to believe there are restrictions that would apply regarding the selection of a particular shaper. Am I correct? Will any shaper work with any model Mark V 500, 510, 520 etc? Yes, I am a novice and eager to learn. Thanks

Re: Shaper Compatability
Certainly any shaper cutter that is Shopsmith or Magna branded would work. Others may or may not fit a Shopsmith.
Re: Shaper Compatability
I think it is safe to say that if a cutter has a 1/2" bore then it is probably compatible with any Shopsmith. I don't know of any exceptions but check to see the max diameter of the cutter is compatible with the diameter of the shaper insert.

Re: Shaper Compatability
I agree with what the others have said. The 7 shapers in the gray boxes are from before November 1951 when the part numbers changed made for the Model 10's. The other was from 1955 before the addition of Magna Power Tool Corporation as the second division of Magna but later than November 1951. The shapers remain essentially the same today as those made back then. The most important thing is are they sharp?

Re: Shaper Compatability
I received the cutters and all of them are in excellent condition. There is no evidence that any of them have been used and no rust! I do have some cutters that are rusted and are in need of some TLC. Can the shaper cutters be sharpened? If so, how do I proceed? Thanks

Light surface rust(really really light) can be honed. deeper rust. fergit it unless you have some special equipment for shapes.shoedo wrote:I received the cutters and all of them are in excellent condition. Probably not worth the effort as total success unlikely.

To sharpen, hone the flat side of the cutter, not the profiled edge.shoedo wrote:I received the cutters and all of them are in excellent condition. Thanks for posting the video on how to sharpen a router bit. I actually found it in my internet search.
