ER and mark V tools

Just joined this forum. And new to the shopsmith unit. I just acquired a 10ER and I believe a Mark V. The 10ER has a drill chuck, jigsaw, sander, lath, table saw and jointer, maybe more. The Mark V has a drill chuck, tilt table and extension table. Will the 10ER tools work on the Mark V? From what I have read today the 10ER is a step child of Shopsmith. That all being said the 10ER cleaned up almost like new and seems to be in great working shape. Seems to be an awesome tool.
Also need size belt goes on the 10ER?
Any help greatly appreciated.

On a side note I had a blast cleaning it up. Totally surprised how it came back into shape.

First of all, welcome to the forum. You will find a wealth of information here and many knowledgeable and helpful people here.

The Model 10 is the original Shopsmith. It is NOT a stepchild. It is where this whole thing began.

Yes, pretty much of all the tools from the MK5/V will work on the 10ER. The 5/8" spindle has not changed since the Model 10 was introduced in 1947. For the SPT's you will need the 10er adapters. Very very rare but Skip Campbell makes adapters to do the same thing. MKCtools.com

Welcome aboard,

10E/ER's are special, and can be addictive.

The first Shopsmith jointer was made for the 10ER, it mounted on a hinge plate that attached to a special headrest. When the Mark V was introduced the jointer was modified to mount with two tubes on the bottom, If your jointer has the two tubes on the bottom it will work on the Mark V

There was a jigsaw made for the 10ER, and it is 10ER specific.

Any thing that attaches to the spindle will work on both.

I appreciate all this information. The old 30 yrs + belt allowed the motor to touch the wood surface not letting it slide. I will purchase one today. I am ready to take it for a " test drive" lol.

Let me first add my welcome to the forum. In your first post here you mentioned that you bought a Model 10ER and you believe a Mark V. John and Ron have given you some good information on the Model 10's. Let's see if we can identify your other tool and if it is a Mark V or not. A Mark V or if before 1980 a Mark 5 will look similar to the picture below. The first ones were painted in a Green paint scheme followed by a Gold/Copper paint scheme than Gray.

This is a Mark V with the original table system also known as a Mark V 500. There are other Mark V models with a larger table system named the Mark V 510 and 505 plus the Mark V 520 with the larger table system and the Pro Fence. Looking at the picture above on the left end of the headstock which is the belt cover there should be a vent plate around the lower shaft which has information including the serial number for tools made before December 1987. Those made after that have the serial and model numbers on a sticker. This should help you identify your Shopsmith.

As John said both the Model 10 Shopsmith's and the Mark series Shopsmith's have the same size Spindle of 5/8" and the Quill has the same diameter also. I have both Model 10's and Mark series tools and can use accessories from either on the other. Not everything is interchangeable but basic accessories are. As an example the Mortising Attachment goes on both the Spindle and the Quill end and the one I have from the Model 10 era will work on my Mark 7 or Mark V 520 just as well as the current one I have will work on my Model 10E or 10ER. The only real difference between them is the size of Allen Wrenches needed to tighten the cap and set screws.

As Ron mentioned the Model 10's has two major accessories. The first was the Jig Saw P/N 134-1X or 11 100 followed by the Model 4E 4" Jointer shortly before the 10ER was replaced by the Mark 5. Below is a picture of my 10ER with the Model 4E 4" Jointer mounted and the P/N 11 100 Jig Saw in front.

The Jig Saw was a common accessory purchased for the Model 10's so many are still around. The one in my picture above is the second version which has the partial belt cover built in. The earlier version, like the one in Ron's picture, didn't have the belt cover. It is important to note that since the Model 10's and their accessories were discontinued 67 years ago there are not new replacement parts available for them with two exceptions for the Model 10's other than common hardware. The Model 4E Jointer is less common to find since they came out shortly before the Mark 5. It was replaced by the Model 620 Jointer which has a different Base/Out Feed Table to add the mounting tubes for the Mark 5 from the original Model 4E Jointer's Base/Out Feed Table. All other parts were the same. Current Jointer parts can be used on the Model 4E Jointer with some assemblies needing to be replaced together. The 4E cannot use the Jointer Dust Chute but all other safety upgrades can be added to it. The Model 620 Jointer could be mounted either way using the tubes for the Mark 5 or Model 10's with the adapter or mounted on the Model 10 with the special headrest & bracket as my Model 4E is mounted above.

The 10ER is set #92838. The other has green ends and shows a small hint of green on cover. I can not find a serial # or plate. I need to get it out in the open and look again.

10ER is from 1953, The other will be a Greenie, also made in the 50's . The serial number will be on the vent plate around the lower shaft on the left end.
