I made a turning saw like https://www.woodsmithexperience.co.uk/s ... rning-saw/ quite a few years ago out of cherry. I can't say I ever loved using it. But, I don't know if my windlass was inadequate, or if the blade was no good.
I recently made a new blade from an old Shopsmith bandsaw blade. But, my windlass cord snapped as I was tightening it. I think I'll use your idea of para cord.
