Folks, I checked in to the Forum for the first time in a long while because Shopsmith asked me to post something about the new DVDs we've put together, and I happened to notice Doug45601's post. I am no longer Shopsmith's spokesman, but I am still close to the company and it's people. I can tell you quite honestly that there is hardly a single sentence in Doug45601's post that doesn't misrepresent Shopsmith's current conditions and plans for the future. The only thing that rings true is Doug45601's inside info that the company is financially strapped and that the economic downturn has hit them hard...wow, what a scoop! Beyond that, there is so much horse-puckey that it's not worth my while to sort it out -- or your while to speculate on it.

When gathering information in such a wild and lawless environment as the Internet, it's best to remember that only 1% of what you find is perfectly correct, 10% is incorrect, and th remainder isn't even incorrect. This is a great example of that third category.

Thanks Nick, for clearing the air and for the upcoming new DVD's. Yesterday when I ordered my set of the new DVD's and checked on the status of a back order, Linda mentioned that Nick had been in the office in the last few days. I was heartened to hear that a relationship still exists between Shopsmith and Nick. I resisted posting here in that ragard due to my negative feelings for rumor mongering short of knowing the facts. Isn't it interesting that given enough time someone like Nick steps forward and clears the air.

If I may be allowed to move a tiny bit toward the negative. Every time someone posts disatisfaction with a back order, my skin crawls. Especially if that individual posts prior to exercising their own personal responsibility to pick up the phone, call the toll free number and get the straight scoop from the super folks at Shopsmith. Further I keep wondering just how long before we all come to understand our world economy is precariously close to a total melt down. One has to feel pretty darned good about a company that takes appropriate actions to keep their finances and viability in order rather than absconding with our hard earned dollars then asking for a government bail out. With that I place the well worn soapbox deep into the farthest corner of the closet. Hmmm perhaps I better hide there myself. I apologize in advance if I have ruffeled any feathers. Please keep in mind opinions I express are mine alone. fjimp

Well my son in law was up for Christmas and I found out that his neighbor has a SS shop and he is sold on them now. So we spent a lot of time in the Garage going over the SS equipment. From the ER's to the Goldie to the 510 and attachments. Now I know I have someone to leave these to that will appreciate them. I have Seven Dauighters and they like wood but none of them really got into it other than small fix it items. So with all this talk, you know they have not made ER's since 53 and that forum is also going strong and a large group. So I think SS will live a long time if nothing else in our shops and with our decendents.
I to am here for the long haul one way or the other.
We do have to thank SS for this forum and place to exchange ideas and information.

I asked you guys not to put the BLAME on me! I was just repeating what was being presented to me and others in an exchange between corporate lawyers and managers who "claim to be in the know" in regards to buisness loans/finance and the like. The main discussions were regarding the trouble Sears was faced with and their future. Market studies were conducted which resulted in the information regarding Dayton area buisness.

I have high hopes for Shopsmith myself and not trying to cause any problems but.... Geezz, From what is being said about the reduction in advertisement and back-log in parts and accessories doesn't give me a fuzzy warm feeling!!

I know some of you have to be seeing this too! Never the less, lets all hope for the best!

I'm glad the Nick has jumped in here and made an effort to defend Shopsmith as so many of us have.

I'm with 8iowa and the rest, Love to hear what you are doing and when. And thanks for the impute. I have hope that after this downward trend ShopSmith with turn up even if it is in a reduced form.

Great to see (or read) you again.

When visiting Shopsmith last summer during the open house they had Bandsaws sitting on the assembly line. So they had parts then anyway.
