Stuck woodruff key
I had a bad woodruff key in the quill extension and couldn’t get it out by the usual methods so I ended up cutting a blank and welding it to the top of the bad key. The pictures show what I did. The new woodruff key is a 3/32” x 5/8”. I had a heck of a time finding one, even Fastenal didn’t have it. I ended up going to a bearing supplier who had it.

Re: Stuck woodruff key
Great out of the box thinking on getting it removed. Just curious, what was the problem with the original woodruff key. Was it too damaged so it could not engage the sleeves keyway?

Re: Stuck woodruff key
I picked up a basket case a couple months ago and it needed a through going through. Belts were shot, sheaves were stuck, you get the idea. The shoulder was rounding off so I thought since I was going through it I would replace it.
Now if I could only figure out hove to get the ribbed belt on.

Re: Stuck woodruff key
When you say "ribbed belt" are you referring to the belt between the Idler Pulley and the Drive Sleeve? If so here is a link to the instructions.

Which drive sleeve 'grooves' did you install it on?

Re: Stuck woodruff key
Here’s a couple of pictures of where the upper belt is in the 2 pulleys. They are running in a straight line.
I am glad I have a second one to look at as I slipped that one’s cover off and noticed I had that one out of line. So that’s another fix to do.

Re: Stuck woodruff key
Good! 9 rib belt centered on a 13 groove pulley. I.E. first rib is in the third groove.
