I used Jacob Anderson's video and it was a great help.

the link in the above post goes to a camping video.

so I took it all apart and struggled for hours to get the spring on the keyhole. getting the screw in the slot was the worst.
back together, nope heard a snap.
apart, the screw not in the slot.
back to step one ... all together, Nope popped out again. So I believe I will just order a new part as that must be the issued in it staying together
thanks all for the help.
hopefully when I get the part, my last post will be "successfully'

Shaping the spring keyhole end so it nearly matches the shaft profile helps.

Then 'forming' the spring away from the end so it positions the keyhole etc. past the shaft(bears against it) then it becomes 'automatic' reentry.

new spring and housing came quick, I could see where the new setup was tighter and shaped to the shaft bette.

only a few curse words and got it on and it working correctly, thanks for all the help.
