I think the 'texture' is from the original paint(splattered). The areas where it was removed appear 'smooth'. I do not see the 'hammered' look?

its hard to see in the photos and it is smoother in the areas where the corrosion was worse and more of what I assume was the factory finish came off, but it does have a texture. I suppose that I could have wire wheeled the entire thing to take it all off.

They are not all the same. Looking at the clamp from the inside of the motor housing, you'll probably see it has two flat sides and two rounded ends. If yes, then squeeze the rounded ends together (hard) while pushing in and/or pulling out from the out side. At least that's how I do it.
