Wooden Radio plans?

I always admired the handsome appearance of the old antique style wooden table radios. Does anyone know of a source for plans or radio components to make one in the shop? Thanks in advance for any leads. Alec

There was a set of plans in an old issue of Workbench or Woodworkers journal or ????? It used a car radio. I know I don't have it any longer but maybe this will jog someones memory. Think this was a 1980's issue.

1980's??? Folks who were around THEN probably have CRS, although past memory seems to work better than current!:D

I too recall plans but I have no idea where to start looking.... I wish there were a place that has all of the woodworking articles from all the wood working sources so you could just type in "old radio" and it would say "woodnots april 1985" (that is just made up BTW). That would be such a help on these things.

The fact is I may even have a plan set as I at one time thought about making one... my wife found a modern look alike and purchased it... it also had a cassette slot in the side... after about a year that died and the radio wasn't very good and the sound was from a 3" speaker. Looks aside it was trash but since it still worked she gave it away.... But I think I still got the plans thinking someday I would revisit this.... now where would I have put those???

I'll check around but I haven't seen that stuff in years and years.

I gave up looking in my stuff, sorry just to much stuff to look at. I did how ever do some searching and found two two possible places to look:

Build a plywood cabinet reminiscent of a 1930's style radio. Install a speaker and an automobile radio/tape player for modern performance.
WOOD MAGAZINE #7 Oct 1985 (v.2#5) pg. 82

and

Reproduction of a cathedral radio case from the 1930's. Dimensions: 14" tall, 10" wide, 8" deep.
WOODWORKER'S JOURNAL Nov-Dec 1982 (v.6#6) pg. 37

I will see if I have either of these two and maybe others can check as well.

That may be what I was thinking of. I do believe I have that issue of WOOD. I take a look upstairs when I turn in for the night. I will report back tomorrow.

I will keep looking but not having any luck finding it. I know it is around here someplace.
