SHOP NOTES: This is my entry in a contest to build an object for an 8 foot long 2X4. My entry was a Shaker-inspired table known as a candle stand. (More below)

Products used in this video (in no particular order):
🟢 Timber Wolf 1/2" x 72" 4 TPI bandsaw blade for the Shopsmith bandsaw: https://amzn.to/34ShtU5
🟢 My favorite 9" long T-handle "Shopsmith Toolbox" 5/32" Hex Wrench: https://amzn.to/3sm3NcJ
🟢 The Bosch 12" Dual Glide chop saw. This thing is amazing! https://amzn.to/34Wuw7g
🟢 I have it mounted on the Bosch portable Gravity-Rise wheeled miter saw stand https://amzn.to/2Glcscz
🟢 I outfitted my saw with the best blade I could, which is the Forrest Chopmaster: https://amzn.to/2YTCF8k This one is 12" with a 1" bore, but they are available in all sizes with all the standard arbor sizes.

This table is based on a design I came up with twenty years ago while I was working as the Academy Instructor at the Shopsmith factory showroom Academy in Dayton Ohio. Back then we were making a similar table in our "Fundamentals of Woodworking" class because, as you will notice, it utilizes quite a number of tools, and Shopsmith tools were excellent for this task.

One issue that the original Shaker design has was that the dovetail connection between the legs and the post were required skills that require a bit of practice, and we just didn't have that kind of time during our three-day class. So, I came up with the idea of producing a hexagonal post that provided us with straightforward locations for the legs without the need for hand-sculpting at the connection point.

If you saw my "White Whale" video you might be wondering if I ever found it, and the short answer is yes, but the long answer is it didn't make it into my final table.

It took two attempts to make my project, not because of the project itself, but because I was plagued with camera problems, and my "White Whale" board was used in the making of that first, unused table. It seemed like every time I completed a task and reviewed the footage the camera either had run out of memory, battery power, or on at least one occasion I forgot to hit the record button!

Finally, I mention Jimmy DiResta in this video. I am a HUGE Jimmy DiResta fan and am only poking fun at a comment he made in a recent episode of the Makin It podcast where he did a little playful mocking of the Shopsmith tools.
