dust collection attachments

Post by AEA »

Has any of you fine folks come up with an easy way to deal with dust collection piping?
If I need to go from a dado blade to a ripping blade, or if I need to use my sanding disk, or move my main table or headstock for any reason, I have to take off the adapter that attaches to the lower saw guard.
I really don't mind so much the removing of the dust collector hose, but the adapter is a pain.
I would like to draw on your experience and modifications.
Thanks,
Dan

Dan,

It would help to know which model of Dust Collection/Lower Saw Guard you are referring to. For the Mark V 500 or original table system there have been three different lower saw guard setups with the last having an upgrade. There was also a Lower Saw Guard for the 1960's Mark VII which used the same Upper Guard as the second Mark 5 Lower Guard and could also be used on the Mark 5. The Mark V 510/505/520, Mark 7 and Mark 4 use the same Saw Guard system. Picture are a plus in identifying too.

Thanks Russ,
It's the lower saw guard for the 505/510/520 and Mark 7.

I took some pictures now I'll try to remember how to post them.

I don't have an adapter on the saw guard of my 510. I connect the dust collector hose directly to the lower guard port.

I have to remove the lower guard when switching blades, but I don't think there is any way to avoid that.

garys,
My dust collector hose is 4" so I have to use the adapter.

Just get an adapter that is a friction fit on the SS 2 1/2" saw guard instead of the rubber cuff and clamp. Woodcraft has a number of them. They even have one with a rubber cuff and clamp on the 4" side and a friction fit on the 2 1/2" side.

Jsburger suggested Woodcraft fittings for the 2-1/2" port. I work for Woodcraft. A 2-1/4" to 4" fitting will fit inside a 2-1/2" port. There is not a friction fitting to go over. There is a friction fit coupler to go over the 2-1/2" port and over the 2-1/2" coupler.
