Jwillbrick,

Welcome to the Shopsmith Forum. The Gauge Collar is often up for sale at online auctions. I found some with the Gauge Rod and nuts for sale currently on ebay. There is a Gauge Collar for sale by itself but is priced way more than the Gauge Collars with the Gauge Rod.

IIRC OEM pulleys are 2.3.4. You have a greater speed range. Take care of the headstock pulley - it has a non-standard bore(assuming the quill shaft is still OEM).

Jwillbrick.

Great to hear you got it back together. JPG is correct about the pulleys not being the OEM 2", 3" and 4" step pulleys that originally came on the Model 10E and 10ER. The Headstock pulley may be a custom made one to have the 13/16" bore required for the Drive Sleeve. It looks like the largest pulley slot is 4" and the smallest is 2" with the other two slots somewhere in between. This still has your highest speed at 3450 RPM's and the slowest at 860 RPM's with the others speeds somewhere in in the middle. The Model 10's were listed as a three-speed tool with an RPM of 1725 or direct motor speed having the belt on both 3" pulley slots. It is interesting, at least to me, is that there was never anything about using different pulley matchups to get additional speeds. The OEM three step pulleys are capable of 7 different speeds not just the three listed in all the Owner's Guides and other printed materials of 860, 1725 and 3450 RPM's. This only requires realigning the pulleys to matchup the 3"-4" or 2"-3" slots for additional speeds. On your Model 10ER having 4 step pulleys you have even more possible speeds. One thing I have found matching up the 3" and 4" slots on the OEM pulleys is that a 1 inch longer belt is needed. The attached PDF chart may be helpful in determining speeds for the different pulley combinations you may have. I am interested to know what the actual pulley step sizes are that you have.

Zombie thread alert! :D

Stew,

I just came across your thread while searching the web for 10ER parts. I'm looking for the tail leg, the one that pivots. I'm going to make my 10ER a dedicated lathe and do not plan to ever use the tilt feature, as I already have a nice 15-1/2" Craftsman drill press. As such, I want to stabilize the ways as much as possible, and thought to just put a tail leg on both ends, the benefit being the larger way tube clamping surface and much larger table attachment surface. In keeping the old parts, I can always change it back if I change my mind, the excellent wonder of the SS. I also need a motor step pulley, if you have one.

I realize shipping will be pricey, but I can't find parts for these anywhere near here- it was a minor miracle finding this one in the first place. Please shoot me a PM with a shipping estimate to 65702, and we can proceed from there.

Many thanks,

Nick
