Re: Lower Saw Guard

Thanks David, yes, that is more like the system I would like to have, but prior to purchasing the lower and upper guards I currently have I did some research here and I believe the newer lower guards wont fit my Mark VII. At least not without modification. I am going to revisit this and do some more research before I purchase another.

Mike,

I haven't owned a Mark VII yet, so this is only what I have observed about them. The Table surface is very similar to the Mark 5/V 500 original Table System except the Mark VII table is larger. The Mark VII uses the same Table Inserts as the Mark 5/V 500 which for the Saw Blade Insert was part number 501379. These Mark VII and Mark 5/V 500 original Table System Inserts are not long enough in the blade opening to have a Riving Knife or Upper Blade Guard (they both mount the same) inserted in the Mark V 510/505, 520 Mark 7 and Mark 4 Saw Blade Guard set even if the Lower Guard could be adapted to fit. The saw blade opening on the Mark V 510/505, 520 Mark 7 and Mark 4 Table Insert is 12-1/2" long but the saw blade opening on the Mark VII and Mark 5/V 500 Table Insert is only 10-1/2" long. The Mark VII & Mark 5/V 500 Table Insert does not have enough overall length or the opening in the table to modify the hole longer to make the Mark V 510/505, 520 Mark 7 or Mark 4 Saw Blade Guard set work for the Riving Knife or Upper Saw Blade Guard. Even if it was possible you would have to get the longer Arbors.

If desired a Riving Knife could be made for the Guard set you have, fashioned after the splitter of the Upper Guard.

Great info Russ, you saved me a lot of research time. I'm ok with it the way it is.
