Did you see the ChopSmith?

Post by thedovetailjoint »

Over 25 years ago as a joke I gave Shopsmith’s Jim McCann a hatchet with the name “ChopSmith” inscribed on the handle. That name has echoed in my head over the years and finally I’ve made something that has earned that title. Starting with an idea from Doug Reid to mount a miter saw on the way tubes of any “Mark”, it affords you not only a handy stand, but also the support from the Shopsmith’s tables. check it out here: https://youtu.be/UBIZZtdmp1M

As I commented in the video, that table design could be used for all sorts bench tools and work Shopsmith mounted workbenches.

Hmm, I may have to see if this is an option for my new Makita battery 10" SMS. I think it may be larger than the Wen and almost assuredly heavier. If my saw would fit easily, this could be a better option than some of my other vague ideas.

Looking for a site to mount and use my Sears Miter Mate with the 520's, I looked hard at Doug Reid solution, but went with this one.

I loved the video. It showed normal life in a shop when things do not always go like planned.
