Help identifying shopsmith part

I have been living out of country and recently returned to find that I inherited my grandfathers 1956 Shopsmith. I have been enjoying getting it working again and identifying all the various parts and accessories, but I have been unable to figure out what the part in the attached photo is. Can anyone help me figure out what this is?

Looks like an old style hold down, designed to apply downward pressure on the workpiece. The curved end of the flat spring would bear on the upper surface of a board on the table. I have only seen pictures of these before, so I am not sure how it mounts. It did, I believe, the same job as the more familiar vertically mounted feather board. Lots of expertise on this forum, so I suspect someone else will have more info.

It is called the Universal Hold Down. Below is a picture of it in its box (early version).

Yours is probably the later version which the only difference is the size of the Allen Wrench needed for the set and cap screws. 5/16" for the later Mark 5 version vs 1/4" for the early Model 10E & 10ER version.

Below is a PDF of the Instructions for the early version which shows its use on the Model 10ER. Sorry I don't have the later version instructions available, but it works similar on the Mark 5.
